I'm A Celeb fans 'cringe' as Matt Hancock reveals family history

I'm A Celeb fans have been left shocked after Matt Hancock revealed his family 'nearly lost everything' when his family's business ran into financial difficulty when he was a teenager. The MP, 44, told his fellow campmates his family's company, which involved writing software to look up addresses online, nearly went bust in the 1990s.

Tonight's episode, in which the celebrities open up about their family lives and parenting, saw Matt Hancock, the MP for West Suffolk, explain the family 'nearly lost everything' when the business went bust.

Comedian Seann Walsh asked him: "“Did you have the bailiffs round yours Matt?”

He replied: “When the business nearly went bust we nearly lost everything. You know when you type your postcode into the internet and it brings up your address? My stepdad wrote that software. The business started in 88 and in the early 90s is when it nearly went bust.

“We were going to lose the house, both my stepdad and mum were going to lose their jobs. That was pretty harrowing. I was about 14."

But fans of the show weren't as sympathetic as the campmates, with some saying they were surprised the MP could vote against children receiving free school meals after his own brush with financial difficulty as a child. One viewer said: "Matt Hancock revealing his family almost lost everything, but he still grew up to vote against children in poverty receiving Free School Meals."

Another added: "Matt thinking he’s being relatable." A third viewer said: "Matt saying he almost lost everything yet still grew up to be a tory."

One I'm A Celeb fan posted that it was 'cringy', "watching matt hancock trying to relate to the working class stories."
