Break-up anthems are a pop stalwart, but no one makes music that’s a soundtrack to having a crush like Flowerovlove, aka Joyce Cissé. “Having a crush is amazing. I love it,” she tells me. “It makes life feel complete when you just have someone to fixate over.”
The London-based singer-songwriter is about to be everyone’s music crush. She dropped her latest single New Friends last week, is joining Halsey for stops on her North America tour, as well as opening for Olivia Rodrigo at BST in Hyde Park and playing Lollapalooza in Chicago. She’s already released three EPs, had a track featured on Netflix hit Heartstopper, and made her Glastonbury debut last year. Not bad for an artist yet to release their first album, let alone one who is just 19 years old.
