'I iz BACK!' Sacha Baron Cohen fuels Ali G film rumours with Wimbledon appearance

Sacha Baron Cohen has added to rumours that a new Ali G film is on the way as he declared that the iconic character “iz back” during a surprise appearance at Wimbledon.

The comedic actor, 54, was spotted courtside at the men’s singles final on Sunday, where he watched Jannik Sinner beat Alexander Zverev in the trademark yellow sunglasses and beard worn by Ali G.

Dressed as the star of Da Ali G Show, Baron Cohen sported a white and green tracksuit with the Wimbledon logo changed to read “Da Championships Wimbledon” and feature a cannabis leaf. The back of the jacket bore the words: ”Official Ganja Dealer.”

His casual attire was paired with a chunky gold necklace with a jewel-encrusted tennis ball pendant, gold trainers and a hat with the words “Ali Gear”.

Created in 1998 as the “voice of da yoof” on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show, Ali G spun off into his own Channel 4 series and 2002 film Ali G Indahouse. Baron Cohen retired the character in 2007, but then resurrected him in 2012 and 2014.

Last week, it was reported that Ali G would be back on the big screen for the first time in 24 years, with a new movie said to be on the way.

As reported by media blog The Inschneider, the currently untitled film has wrapped filming, with Baron Cohen allegedly having been spotted filming as Ali G around Oxfordshire in July and September 2025.

Reports that the character was making a comeback first emerged in 2023, with the project said to have faced major delays due to the writer and actor strikes in the US.

Not only did Baron Cohen appear at Wimbledon as Ali G, but the actor posted a video in character in collaboration with a newly created Instagram account, @official.ali.g.

As Ali, Baron Cohen explained that he was at the tennis, which he said was “like the World Cup of something called tennis, which is like a crap version of ping pong”.

“I iz BACK! And if u iz at dis borin wimbledore final lookin 2 get grand slammed, I iz here wif de hookup,” he captioned the video, telling his followers to ”DM me, especially if u iz fit”.

In addition to Ali G, Baron Cohen is known for creating other legendary comedy characters such as Brüno and Borat, the latter of whom was last seen in the Oscar-nominated 2020 sequel Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
