While portable air conditioners are a more affordable option, they’re noisy, bulky and nowhere near as effective at cooling an entire home during a heatwave. Actual installed split air conditioning systems are quieter, offer lower running costs and are a lot more powerful at cooling down rooms – but they can cost thousands of pounds to initially install.
