I hope Aberdeen win has set me on goals trail, says Motherwell star

Blair Spittal says being part of a three-pronged attack helped earn a 3-2 win for Motherwell at Aberdeen, and hopes that leads to more goals for him.

The 26-year-old midfielder bagged his first goal of the season in the win at Pittodrie, and admits he enjoyed being pushed further forward.

Spittal hopes that continues against Livingston this afternoon, and aims to add firepower to the front line.

The former Ross County and Partick Thistle star says few thought the Steelmen would return from Pittodrie with points but they were confident in themselves.

He said: “After the St Johnstone game, with the way things ended [2-1 defeat in stoppage time] a lot of people would have looked at the way Aberdeen had started and they would have been big favourites, going into the game.

“People would have looked at the result and eyebrows would have been raised, but within the camp we thought we could go up there and do a job.

“The way we went up, not only getting the win, but the performance we put in, was important.

“We played some good football, created a lot of chances, so hopefully that’s a sign of things to come from us.

“The manager pushed me a wee bit higher up last Saturday and I think as a front three we connected really well together, combining at different points in the game.

“It was important for me to get my first goal. Consistency-wise, performances from myself probably haven’t been where I would want them to be, but a lot of things have happened this season, so far.

“Now that’s happened for me and I’ve put in that good performance, I’m ready to build on it and hopefully find that consistency from where I was last season.

“I’m a versatile player. I can play in most positions across the middle and along the front as well, so wherever I’m asked to play I’m ready to do a job.”

Spittal says confidence is high following the win at Pittodrie, but warned that Livingston will arrive in ML1 in a similar mood.

He said: “I think after last week the confidence is good in the squad and we’re ready to go on Saturday, now.

“After every win the mood is always pretty high in the place, but we’re looking to get going and hopefully we can put in a similar performance and get the three points.

“Livingston are in a similar position to us, they’ve started the season pretty well with two wins in three, and it has been tough games for them as well.

“We’re under no illusions about how hard it’s going to be, but we’re at home, we need to take the game to them, and hopefully we can get our first win at Fir Park this season.”
