I have made it my life's mission to get this Legend of Zelda toy, because it is truly magnificent

Just as Link tries to track down a litany of shiny things in The Legend of Zelda, I have made it my personal quest to get a very specific piece of merch. It is my white whale.

That's ironic, because it's actually pretty small. Ever heard of Nendoroids? These cute-as-a-button action figures from Good Smile Company recreate pop culture icons (often from anime) in adorable miniature, complete with accessories and numerous expressions. They usually feature extensive articulation as well, meaning you can pose them in a surprising number of ways. As noted in our guide, I think the Link versions – specifically the Wind Waker Link – is amongst the best Legend of Zelda merch around. It's arguably one of the best toys Nintendo fans can get their hands on, too.

Unlike some toys based on the cartoon adventure, this figure perfectly captures Link's toon appearance; it's as if he's been dragged from the screen and dumped onto our shelves. It can be notoriously hard to recreate an animated character as an actual, real-world thing (see the early and slightly cursed Toy Story mascot costumes from the Disney Parks if you want an example), but Good Smile has managed it here. It really does feel like a 1:1 replica.

Because I fell so hard for the Wind Waker when I first played it in the early '00s, particularly its art style, that's catnip for me. However, I have a surprising (read: total) lack of Wind Waker merch at home. With that in mind, it's the Nendoroid figure I've set my heart on. Yes, the amiibo versions are great – but this is a whole other level. Especially because you can affix Link with his trusty sword and shield or the Wind Waker itself. You can even recreate him sneaking around, which is just priceless. Full points for including that unnecessary but wonderful expression, Good Smile Company.

With Zelda's 40th anniversary now upon us, maybe this is the year I finally get it. That, or an official Master Sword replica
