Liam Kerrigan says it felt like he was 'learning to walk again' after stepping up rehabilitation from his ACL nightmare.
The former League of Ireland star and Ireland Under-21 international moved to Italian second tier side Como 1907 from UCD in July.
And the Sligo man, 22, made an instant impression by scoring on his Como debut only to then rupture his cruciate in a training ground incident in September.
Kerrigan is now three months into his rehab and is not giving up hope of making another appearance before the season finishes in May.
“I love the feeling of running again, but I know the journey is still long,” he said in an interview for the club’s social media.
“So far, I’m currently 13 weeks into my rehab, and everything is going well. It’s been challenging, but I’ve a great team around me which has helped.
“The first couple of weeks was probably the toughest. I had to wear a leg brace and almost learned to walk again.
“Then I worked in the swimming pool a lot to help ease back into moving the joint again.”
Kerrigan continued: “Returning to running was the best feeling but I’m not going to rush it, these things take time.
“I miss playing so much, and it’s been tough on the sidelines, but I cannot wait to get back out there and help the team as soon as possible.”
Como are currently 15th in the 20-team Serie B, and five points clear of bottom side Cosenza.
