As a longtime sugar addict and child of the noughties, sugar has always held a certain appeal for me. Childhood birthdays spent snacking on party rings and lunchtimes on ice gems means that, as an adult, I’m more than a little partial to chocolate – or, worse, sickly sweet cocktails.
But new year, new me, and after a particularly egregious Christmas, I found myself hankering for a change. Could I kick my love of sugar once and for all – or, at the very least, for a week? With a fair amount of foolish optimism, I set about trying to change the habits of a lifetime.
