Choosing a baby name isn't always an easy task, and whatever decision you make over your little one's moniker shouldn't be judged by anyone else unless you've asked for their honest opinion.
But one mum-to-be was left "really upset" after her family gave her unsolicited advice over the name she's chosen for her daughter, as she said she's taken their opinions "to heart".
The woman - who is currently 28 weeks pregnant - explained she had a few baby names floating around for some time, but she's now settled on calling her daughter Ivy, which has split opinions among her family members.
Pne person upset her when they claimed Ivy was a "name for a dog, not a person" - without her even asking them for their opinion.
In a post on Reddit, she said: "Throughout my pregnancy, I have discussed possible names for my upcoming baby girl due at the end of July with my family. I was going with one particular name but then ended up finding a name I like more and have stuck with it, which is Ivy.
"Every time I have mentioned to someone in my family whether it be a cousin, my parents, aunties, uncles etc, EVERYONE has an opinion on the name I have picked. Lots have said they liked what her name was before. One even said, 'that's a name for a dog, not a person'. I didn't ask for your f***ing opinion, dude. I'm telling you what her name is GOING to be.
"Why can't anyone just shut the f**k up and be supportive? Too bad you liked the previous name, I'm not changing it just because you like it. I don't.
"Me being VERY hormonal at this stage, I've taken these opinions to heart and they have really upset me. I know they shouldn't. I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through/is going through this."
Commenters on the post were quick to support the woman, with many saying they went through similar things when they were expecting, and several others questioning the idea that Ivy is somehow a "dog's name".
One person said: "I've met three women named Ivy and zero dogs named Ivy. I love the name. It's easy to pronounce, easy to spell, and it reminds me of nature."
While another added: "I can totally relate. We decided on a name for our son pretty early on, and I shared it with my parents. My mum literally said right after I told her, 'you can't name him that, the neighbour's daughter just named her son that'. Like two completely different women can't both name their sons the same thing. In my mum's head that name is 'taken' or something."
And a third posted: "I'm so sorry they are being so judgmental, but also their opinion baffles me. I've never seen a dog called Ivy. It's a great, classic name without being too common and actually what I want as a middle name if I end up having a girl."
