A woman fell in love with her tattoo artist and they inked each other's initials on their ring fingers on their wedding day. Olivia Johnson, 29, met Kyle, 31, when he tattooed the quote ‘take it easy’ on her arm – a homage to her late grandad, Steve, 77, who passed away in September 2019.
Kyle said he wouldn’t charge her for the cost of the tattoo but didn’t have the courage to ask Olivia out – instead she took the plunge to message him. After going on their first date, the pair hit it off and moved in together four months later and Kyle proposed on Isla Mujeres, Mexico, after one year together.
The tattoo-obsessed couple decided to add to their body art and Kyle inked their initials on their ring fingers on the big day. The pair even inspired Olivia’s parents, Cindy and Dale, both 60, to get matching ink to celebrate their 36th anniversary.
Olivia, who works for a car dealership, from London, Ontario, Canada, said: “I met him when he tattooed me. I thought he was attractive, and I had a crush on him.
“He’s very shy. He didn't charge me for the tattoo but didn't say anything else. So, I then sent him a message to ask him out. We moved quickly from there.
“I love Beyoncé and saw she and Jay Z have matching ring finger tattoos. I thought it was such a cool idea.
“Kyle can’t wear his ring a lot when tattooing as he wears gloves so it's easier for him as well. It was very special.”
Olivia met Kyle in December 2019 and the pair moved in together the following March before Kyle popped the question in December 2020. The tattoo-mad couple knew they wanted to get a matching tattoo on their wedding day in July 2022.
They chose to ink each other’s initials on their ring finger - like Olivia’s idol Beyoncé. As a tattoo artist, Kyle was able to design and tattoo the ink onto their fingers - and they each went for different styles to keep it personal.
Olivia said: “I have a ‘K’ that is very dainty. Kyle has a bold ‘O’. We posed for the pictures on our wedding day and Kyle drew them on but we had to get it done properly the next day because there was just not enough time.
"It was the craziest day." Friends and family loved the idea so much that Olivia’s parents Cindy and Dale decided to copy them a few months later.
Olivia said: “They loved it.” Olivia and Kyle also have a matching bee tattoo being their ear – to symbolise the tattoo parlour they own together – The Hive Tattoo & Co.
They plan to continue getting matching ink when they visit different places together – and hope to get one when they visit Nashville, Tennessee, for their anniversary.
Olivia said: “I find tattoos attractive. Kyle is absolutely covered.”
