'I fed my wedding guests £500 of McDonald's from Uber Eats instead of catering'

A foodie bride spent over £500 ($1000) on McDonald's for her wedding guests instead of having late-night catering.

Izzy Barreto, who tied the knot with husband Justin on October 15 last year, surprised their friends and family with the giant order to end the evening.

The fast food feast included 100 double cheeseburgers, 100 pieces of junior chicken and 150 fries and cost $1,000, which is around £596.

The couple, both 32, pre-ordered the monster meal from Uber Eats ahead of the big day.

The bride, from Toronto, Canada, said: "We wanted to do something that wasn't super traditional.

"Everyone loves a McDonald's after a night of drinking and we knew our guests would love it. Our caterer offered us late-night food but we turned it down as we wanted to do something fun.

"It also just felt like an extension of us. We didn't stick to a lot of traditions. For example, we didn't have a wedding cake, we aren't big cake people so we had a cheese board."

Izzy, who works in tech sales, claims her guests loved the unique idea and would encourage other couples to throw away traditions and personalise their wedding.

She added: "A lot of people stick to traditions to make other people happy, such as their guests or family, but it's your wedding day so do whatever makes you happy.

"Our guests absolutely loved the idea. We also let them take McDonald's home so it was a win-win scenario.

"I've been at weddings before where you barely got any food and had to grab fast food on the way home, which our guests didn't have to worry about."

The newly-wed posted the calorific grub on TikTok where users were quick to comment.

One said: "YES."

Another wrote: "We did junior chickens and McDoubles from McDonald’s and the venue provided porchetta/poutine - it was perfect."

A third penned: "If there are no burgers at my wedding I don't want it"

A fourth added: "This is actually brilliant…I need some chicken nuggets and a Mcdonald's diet Coke!"
