The shiny blue domes of Santorini or beaches of Mykonos may be the headliners of a Greek island cruise but my favourite stop has fewer crowds and more character despite mainly being made up of ancient ruins.

I sailed through the Cyclades on two different cruises last summer, visiting eight unique Greek island destinations on cruise ships with Star Clippers and Royal Caribbean.
