'I could've been stabbed': Channel 4's George Clarke robbed at knifepoint near Oxford Circus

Amazing Spaces presenter George Clarke is the latest victim of theft near Oxford Street.

The 50-year-old architect, known for property shows like The Restoration Man, revealed he was held at knifepoint and had his watch stolen.

The Channel 4 star admitted he feared he "could have been stabbed" during the incident on Monday. His representative confirmed to the Standard that the robbery took place near Oxford Circus.

The father-of-three assured fans he was "ok" but shared his frustration, saying he felt "angry" for letting the attacker escape.

Clarke admitted he had the urge to fight back but worried he would "be done for assault” as he recounted the harrowing experience to his 240,000 Instagram followers.

He shared a screengrab from his notes app, which read: 'To the little **** who stole my watch tonight...I pity you. “

He added in the caption: “It's only a watch at the end of the day. Although I loved it and grafted for it. But I could have been stabbed so let it go...

“I'm ok. I'm just angry with myself. I wanted to hit him but I'd be the one done for assault!!!!”

His social media followers were quick to show their concern in the comments, with one writing: “You have every right to be angry.. but not at yourself, oh no no.”

“Totally understand being angry, but you’re safe and that’s the most important thing for you and your family,” another penned.

A third added: “That’s rough. Frightening. Sorry George.”

In an update, Clarke shared his gratitude for the outpouring of support and wrote: “Thank you for all of your kind words. I really appreciate it. At the end of the day it’s only a watch…I loved it but thankfully it had no sentimental value…”

Clarke was previously married to animator Catriona Drummond, whom he split from in 2014. The former couple share three children: sons Georgie, 20, and Emilio, 18, and daughter Iona, 16.

The TV star is the latest in a line of people targeted by thieves in the central London area.

Last month, BBC broadcaster Nicky Campbell was singled out by a phone thief near Oxford Street - but managed to snatch back his phone.

The Radio 5 Live presenter, 63, posted on X: “Jeeeez. Near Oxford St. Guy just tried to grab my phone as I was on it.

“His hand was on it. I snatched it back shouted ‘fk you’ and he ran off. Take care out there.”

Londoners have told the Standard that they have become increasingly targeted by phone thieves, with an Evening Standard Feature’s Writer explaining that someone tried to snatch her phone just metres from her front door.

The Hackney resident told the Standard: “Every single person I know has had a brush with a phone thief.

“My neighbour even had hers taken by one thief and thrown back to her because they didn’t like the type of phone she had.

“They have so much choice, that’s how pervasive it is.

“I am now incredibly protective of my phone and I don’t get it out on the street anywhere in London, particularly in central London, if I can avoid it.”
