With the cost-of-living crisis appearing to never end, memories of visiting the supermarket without fears of price rises feel like a lifetime ago. Since the beginning of the 'crisis' at the end of November 2021, prices have seemingly increased on a weekly basis.
While some products have risen more than others, grocery prices have particularly stood out as having a sharp hike. To evaluate exactly how much costs have increased, Manchester Evening News reporter Emma Gill repeated a big shop she did at Tesco in December 2021, the early days of the crisis.
"Back then my shopping came to just over £90 - with a four pint bottle of milk costing £1.15 rather than today's £1.65 - and a Soft White Hovis loaf costing 99p, rather than the current £1.40, both amounting to hikes of more than 40%," Emma said.
