'I can’t remember a worse game' - Jurgen KIopp's full answer as Liverpool boss admits he's hit new low

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s dreadful defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion represents a new low in his managerial career.

And the Reds boss dismissed suggestions the loss was a “one-off” after his team’s Champions League qualification hopes suffered another damaging blow.

Two second-half goals from Solly March and another from substitute Danny Welbeck consigned Liverpool to a 3-0 Premier League defeat at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday evening.

It prompted Klopp to reveal the depth of his concern by regarding the reverse without comparison during his 22 years as a manager.

“It’s my job to make the right line-up and set up the right tactics,” said the Reds boss. “I had really nice moments doing that but, I’m not sure if it’s because it’s only a few minutes since the game, but I can’t remember a worse game.

“I honestly can’t and I mean all (my career) not only Liverpool and that’s my responsibility. So that makes it a really low point.”

Klopp added: “There might be games but this isn’t one where you say ‘it’s a one-off’. The moment is not great.

“So, yes, we have injury problems and all these kind of things but, come on, the team we lined up today was really not a bad one. What we made of it was not good, that’s true, but it’s not a moment where you say ‘forget about it’.

“Actually, after the game I didn’t say a lot to the boys because I don’t think anything I would have said would have helped. It’s not the right moment to start if I have to say something either way, to wake somebody up or lift somebody up. There is time for doing that tomorrow.”

Liverpool mustered only two shots on target in a game in which they were comprehensively outplayed by a Brighton side who have moved above them in the table.

And Klopp said: “It was clear, so it makes no sense to talk about it but it would have been really necessary to play real football. Play. The man-marking system you have to move you have to play you have to pass the ball.

“We had footballers out there so we said ‘come on, bring on fresh legs and let’s play a little bit’. But in the end nothing worked out today.

“In the little football moments everyone could see how close we were too causing more problems than we did. I don’t expect anyone to remember a good situation from our game. I have nothing good to say about this.”
