Finding your all time favourite outfit can take years, but I happened to stumble across mine at my local River Island store.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the bright and wonderful green checked double breasted blazer, and matching skirt. I had to have them both.
Both pieces immediately caught my attention amongst a vast array of colourful summery outfits, and despite the rather hefty price tag, I was convinced that I needed it for my Birthday. I’d already purchased a dress for the evening so now I needed a day outfit, because you’ve got to feel special on the big day - right?

I didn’t purchase the combo immediately and decided to think about it before taking the plunge. It got to the point where I couldn’t stop thinking about this dreamy pink and green check suit that looked like an outfit straight out of the film ‘Clueless’.
A few days before my birthday I decided to try on the two pieces at my local River Island store. I’m usually a size 10/12, but I found that the skirt in a 12 was slightly short and snug when sitting down, and the 14 was preferable. In contrast, the blazer was quite big on me for a size 12, so I went for a 10, and everything fit perfectly.
I looked at myself in the changing room mirror and felt good, a feeling which is quite rare to me (especially with the unflattering changing room lighting!) I decided to purchase the ‘green checked boucle mini skirt’ priced at £36, with of course, the amazing ‘ boucle double breasted blazer ’ at £80.
Of course, this whole outfit ended up being quite expensive, but I knew I’d get lots of use out of both items of clothing. Both pieces could be used for work, but could also be dressed down with some trainers for a chilly spring evening, or dressed up with heels for a bottomless brunch.
The blazer is in a boucle fabric with a frayed trim and has padded shoulders which always makes me feel confident. I was really pleased with the quality and general feel of the fabric, which was soft on the inside and not too thick to wear on a relatively warm day.
In terms of the skirt, I’d size up for those who don’t want to feel uncomfortable when sitting down. The size 14 gave me just enough space and didn’t ride up my thigh once I sat down.
As soon as I put this outfit on I felt instantly transformed, like a character from Gossip Girl or Emily in Paris. Granted, the colours and style aren’t for everyone, but for me, the combination was absolutely perfect.
