'I asked my date to pay me back after she lied about being a single mum'

A man has divided opinions online after confessing he requested his date pay him back after discovering she'd lied to him about having a child.

The 27-year-old has a strict "no single mums " policy when it comes to dating, as he believes it makes it impossible to be spontaneous when making plans, as children always need to be considered.

About four months ago, the man went round to his friend's house to watch some sports, and while he was there, his friend's girlfriend invited one of her friends round - a woman called Morgan.

"Me and Morgan had an immediate connection. She was really cute and had a good personality so I was interested. I asked my friends girlfriend to set me up and she did," he wrote on Reddit's AITA forum.

"I got Morgan's contact info and we started texting. During the conversation I asked if she had any kids and she said no. Perfect, because I don't date single mums. I've had issues with it in the past and it's just not something I'm comfortable doing anymore. I told her this and she said she understood."

Since then, he and Morgan have done on five dates together, and on each one of them they've had a really good time and have laughed a lot. After their fifth date, the man decided to look Morgan up on Facebook to add her as a friend, as he saw the relationship blossoming into something, but he was shocked when he saw her page.

"She had a kid on her profile. I thought maybe it was a nephew. But kept scrolling and found more pics. Definitely her kid. So I texted and asked she if she had a kid. She said, 'why are you asking?' I told her about the Facebook. She then admitted to having a kid. She said she didn’t like to bring him up until she knew she could trust a guy. And that she’s at the point now where she trust me."

The man told her thought that was "bulls***" because she knew his stance on dating single mums, leaving him feeling like she'd wasted his time. He went on to ask that she send him the money for tickets they had bought for an upcoming gig, as he'd spent around £380 ($500) on all their dates so far.

"I wasn't gonna Venmo request her for all the dates, as I make good money and didn't feel the need to do that, but I did Venmo request her for one of the tickets and £38 ($50) for the dates, around £77 ($100) total," he explained.

"I guess Morgan told my friend's girlfriend because she texted me, Saying that I'm being an a**hole, but my friend is defending me saying that I shouldn't have been lied to, and paying £77 is nothing compared to the hundreds I spent on dates. And she still has the ticket."

The man then turned to Reddit to question whether he really was in the wrong for asking for the money back after Morgan knowingly lied to him about having a child.

"I can see requesting the ticket back and reselling it. The rest I'd write off and move on. In the future, probably best to just split the cost of dates," one Reddit user suggested.

Another added: "She's sucks for lying but bro just let it go and move on. It's $100. Not worth the energy to try to retrieve it, nor is it a good look. You had fun on the dates and it didn't work out. That's dating in general. Would you ask for the money back if you simply found you weren't compatible?"
