Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has hailed Darwin Nunez's "sensational" recent form at Liverpool and revealed he is desperate for the forward to find the back of the net on a regular basis.
And the footballer-turned-pundit believes the Uruguayan's all-encompassing display against Everton in Monday's Merseyside derby victory proves it's only a matter of time before his luck changes.
Since making the move from Benfica to Anfield for an initial fee of £64m back in June, Nunez has scored ten goals in 27 appearances for the Reds in what has been a collective season of struggle for all within Jurgen Klopp's side. However, the 23-year-old has found himself on the receiving end of somewhat unjust criticism following his red card against Crystal Palace and expected troubles in front of goal.

Nunez's last Premier League goal for the Reds came over three months ago when he fired a brace during the 3-1 victory against Southampton on November 12 and he is yet to recapture his pre-World Cup form during the second half of the campaign.
However, he earned plenty of plaudits for his performance against Everton on Monday night after a tenacious display, but particularly for his wonderfully-crafted assist for Mohamed Salah to open the scoring in the first half.
And despite being unable to crown his outing with a goal as he was thwarted by Blues goalkeeper Jordan Pickford late on, Wright, who is the Gunners' second top goalscorer of all-time, believes Liverpool have a spectacular talent on their hands who will pass the test of time at Anfield.
“I feel it is going to happen for him as he is playing sensationally," Wright told Wrighty's House Podcast. "The goal he set up for Salah [against Everton] and his all-round energetic pace and output, he is doing everything except scoring.
“I can’t put my finger on why someone with such good technical ability, it’s not even a case of needing to slow down before he shoots, it just doesn’t seem like it is going to go in for him at the moment.
“The fact he is not scoring as frequently as he would like to score, you have to get yourself in a situation where you can hit the target instantly."
The 59-year-old, who won the final Golden Boot before the Premier League's inception and scored over 300 goals during his playing days, also admitted he is desperate for his fellow forward to be a success in a similar way he rooted for Fernando Torress when he struggled for form after a £50m move to Chelsea in January 2011.
“I am desperate for him to score," added Wright. "He is trying to shoot from angles that are not good angles. Darwin Nunez’s touches at that pace are phenomenal, that’s why I am desperate for it to click. When it clicks, I think he will cause an unbelievable amount of problems.
“When it comes to strikers, I can’t help but side with them. The one I sided with for so long was Torres back at Chelsea, I had to stay with that - and I’m doing that with Darwin Nunez at the minute.”
