‘I always see a ton of these pants at thrift stores’: New York woman splurges on $160 Aritzia pants. Then she folds them

A New York Aritzia customer spends over $150 on a single pair of faux leather pants. However, she quickly regrets her purchase after unfolding them.

In a video with over 119,000 views, TikToker Nicole (@uhohxnicole) lays out a pair of light brown pants on her bed.

“Do not shop at Aritzia,” she says. The popular Canadian clothing company sells elevated Gen Z women’s fashion and is often the source of viral clothing hauls worth $1,000 or more on TikTok.

The pants appear untouched at the waist; however, the faux leather on the legs is shredded and peeling.

“I left these folded. Look at this [expletive]. This is insane,” she says. In a comment, she says she bought the pants four years ago for $160.

Did leaving the Aritzia pants folded destroy them?

According to Aritzia’s website, its faux leather products are made with the brand’s “UnReal Leather.” The fabric is 100% polyurethane on the outside and 100% polyester, both types of plastic.

Aritzia describes its faux leather as a “timeless, innovative fabric with an authentic drape and soft sheen.”

However, the fabric isn’t as durable as leather. Clothing made of polyurethane may break down, which caused the peeling on Nicole’s pants. This process can occur due to age, exposure to extreme temperatures, and improper storage, per Love Your Leather.

In a comment, Nicole says the pants were only folded for “a couple of months” before they started degrading.

What do other shoppers think of the peeling pants?

In the comments, other shoppers say they’ve dealt with similar issues with their faux leather clothing.

“This happened to a faux leather jacket I got from Free People. I bought it in 2017, used it nonstop. Haven’t touched it since maybe 2020, took it out of my closet this year, and fr it fell apart just like this,” one shares.

“The same thing happened to my melina’s when I traveled :( Luckily, I emailed Aritzia & they gave me a gift card. that still shouldnt be happening though,” another says.

“I bought a vinyl jacket, and it was just hanging in my closet, and it disintegrated. The most they gave me was a $55 gift card…,” a third shares.

Others criticize the high price tag for clothing made of plastic, considering the poor durability of the product.

“Sis, buy real leather! Its so much better and lasts such a long time and stop wearing plastic clothing,” a commenter suggests.

“Aritzia sometimes feels like a social experiment to see who would be spending $160 on fake leather pants,” a second viewer remarks.
