Hyrox makes rule change after athlete competes despite soiling herself in Beijing

  • Hyrox has apologised and updated its global rulebook after an Australian athlete was permitted to complete and win a race in Beijing despite soiling herself.
  • The competitor won the Pro Women’s event in 1 hour 1 minute and 23 seconds, but the incident caused backlash after footage showed faecal matter on her legs and shared equipment.
  • Hyrox co-founder Moritz Fürste admitted the organisation made a mistake by failing to react immediately during the race to prevent potential contamination.
  • Under the revised rules, race directors are now authorised to withdraw an athlete on medical grounds if blood, vomit, urine, or faeces pose a welfare or contamination risk.
  • Hyrox China disinfected the venue and replaced affected carpets, while the global organisation warned that anyone using abusive language against the athlete would be permanently banned.
