Hyderabad: Tanzanian peddler caught trying to smuggle in 1,157 gram of cocaine

HYDERABAD: In one of the biggest cocaine seizures in Hyderabad, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths arrested a peddler from Tanzania at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport and seized 1,157 grams of Cocaine worth Rs 11.57 crore.

The peddler ingested 79 cocaine capsules at Pretoria in South African and travelled to Hyderabad. Acting on passenger data analysis and specific intelligence, DRI sleuths have identified and intercepted a 44-year-old male passenger from Tanzanian at the RGI Airport on April 21. The passenger was travelling from Johannesburg to Hyderabad via Dubai by Emirates Flight No. EK 0528.

During the inquiry, the passenger confessed that he had ingested capsules containing Cocaine. "The peddler purged 22 Cocaine capsules at the airport and sought immediate medical assistance to purge the rest of the capsules," said a DRI official.
