Huyton semi to become day centre after plans approved

A semi-detached house in Huyton is to be converted into a day centre after plans were approved.

The proposals, to convert the property at St Mary’s Road in Huyton were submitted to Knowsley Council by the Young Adult Respite Service to accommodate the needs of young people with disabilities currently on a waiting list.

The service had outgrown its current home with planning document stating 15 people are on its waiting list, with 35 people already making use of its respite and day care services.

The day centre would be open during day time hours and provide a space for young people with disability to take part in developmental and recreational activities. The applicant has been supported by the council’s stronger communities team.

Several objections had been received to the application, including concerns about noise levels during the day, potential parking issues and drainage concerns.

One letter was also received by planning officers in favour of the proposals, with no objections received from either highways or environmental health.

A report produced by planning officers noted that the applicant had amended its parking plans in response to the objections and had reached an agreement with nearby St Agnes Church regarding parking arrangements.

The report added that a condition could be included to restrict opening hours to respond to noise and activity concerns.

Concluding the change of use application involved an “acceptable proposal” for the building, officers approved the plans, meaning the day care centre can now go ahead.
