Husband wrestles out-of-control German Shepherd to the ground after it mauls dog and wife

A professional dogwalker had to fight an erratic dog on the ground after it mauled his dog and bit his wife.

Paul Jennings and his wife Sasithon were strolling in Kingston-upon-Thames town centre with their dog Cody, a beagle, on April 8 when a huge German Shepherd went for them, The Mirror reported.

Sasithon leaped in front of the German Shepherd who was attacking their dog, which led to her being bit.

CCTV images show Paul wrestling the dog to the floor before the owner takes over by putting it on a lead and heading off.

The couple rang the authorities and were driven to A&E, where Sasithon was treated for a leg bite.

Police are looking into the incident as Paul says he's annoyed it's been three weeks and the owner has not yet been identified.

He also informed The Mirror that he feels there ought to be a licence for owning dogs of that size.

He said: "We don't think she should face criminal charges but people who have powerful dogs need to have some training or they should have some kind of licence.

"To drive a car you need to have training or else you can easily kill people on the road, but with dogs, it seems to be a free for all when you've got a deadly animal with you."

He added that the owner had no harness for her dog, while Sasithon feared for the life of a dog or baby in a future attack.

The teaching assistant said: "I just didn't want Cody to get bitten - I didn't really think about it, it was instinct that put me forward. I knew he bit my leg but I didn't know it was that bad until the ambulance came and they looked at my wound."

Paul, a professional dog walker in Surrey, said posting the incident on Facebook, there have been three alleged sightings of the owner.

He said: "She had a flimsy collar on that would be suitable for a small dog, but for a dog that is powerful - you shouldn't be going out in public places like that.

The brave dog walker said he was not scared for himself but for his own dog.

Paul stated that the woman hasn't presented herself and nobody has said they know her.

A police spokesperson told the Mirror: "Police are investigating an incident in which a woman was bitten by a dog in Kingston on the evening of 8 April.

"Enquiries continue. There has been no arrest."
