A loving husband told his wife "don't worry about me I'll be fine" minutes before he died when the ambulance rushing him to hospital crashed into a wall. Trevor Bailey had suffered a heart attack at work and came home before medics were called to his home on April 22 last year.
Despite his serious condition, Mr Bailey, known as Trev, was chatting to paramedics and walked to the ambulance before being placed on a stretcher. The inquest into Trev’s death heard how the ambulance was heading along the main road towards the local hospital.
On the approach to a junction, the ambulance began to overtake a HGV. The HGV’s offside rear indicator was not working. It had veered slightly to the left before turning, which the medical care assistant Gemma Sumners, who was driving, assumed meant he was giving way.
