Husband of teacher slain in Texas school shooting 'dies of heart attack'

The husband of a heroic teacher who was slaughtered in a Texas school shooting this week has died of a heart attack, it's being reported. The shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers on Tuesday (May 24).

Teacher Irma Garcia was one of the victims who was shot and killed by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos. Now, her grieving husband Joe Garcia has reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack, reports MirrorOnline.

The couple were high school sweethearts and had been married 24 years. They had four children.

In a GoFundMe shared online by Garcia’s family cousin Debra Garcia Austin wrote that Joe died on Thursday morning “as a result of a medical emergency”. “I truly believe Joe died of a broken heart and losing the love of his life of more than 30 years was too much to bear,” she wrote.

Writing on Facebook, a nephew of Irma wrote after the shooting: "She sacrificed herself protecting the kids in her classroom, I beg of you to keep my family, including all of her family, in y’all’s prayers. IRMA GARCIA IS HER NAME and she died a HERO, she was loved by many and will truly be missed."

Irma, 46, and colleague Eva Mireles, 44, were both killed by Ramos along with 19 kids before the teenager was gunned down by police.

The Texas shooting is the deadliest at a US primary school since the infamous Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in which 20 children and six adults were killed almost a decade ago.
