Brisbane Heat remain unbeaten after four WWBL matches following a 13-run win over Melbourne Stars.

Earlier on Friday, in the first game of the double-header at Brisbane's Allan Border Field, Hobart Hurricanes won for the first time this season with a rain-shortened seven-wicket triumph over the Adelaide Strikers.

Heat allrounder Charli Knott starred with bat and ball against the Stars, plundering 31 off 14 deliveries and snaring 2-13 with her spinners.

The hosts made 6-150 after being sent in and then restricted the Stars to 7-137 despite a class knock by 19-year-old England international Alice Capsey (52 off 43 deliveries) and a late flourish from Kim Garth (45no off 27).

The Heat's innings was held together by No.3 Georgia Voll (48no off 40) after opener Ellie Johnston (28) shone early.

Player of the match Knott's whirlwind innings helped Voll rescue the Heat from a precarious 5-99.

The 20-year-old struck six boundaries, including two over the ropes, in a cameo that gave the bowlers a decent total to defend.

"I have been working on my power game this off-season and it is nice to see the translation into the game," Knott told Fox Cricket after the win.

"It has been a very good start to the tournament for us. We are clicking as a team and when one person doesn't stand up there is always another to fill that spot."

Annabel Sutherland (2-19) was the pick of the visitors' bowlers.

The Heat unleashed four spinners in the run chase, with Knott, Jess Jonassen (2-35) and Sarah Glenn (2-21) all doing a good job of picking up wickets at regular intervals.

Heat fast bowler Nicola Hancock dived full stretch to take a screamer to dismiss Nicole Faltum (six) off Knott at a crucial moment.

Light rain fell in Brisbane and delayed the start of the earlier Hurricanes-Strikers match which was subsequently reduced to eight overs each.

The Hurricanes elected to field and they were able to restrict the Strikers to 1-74 in eight overs, despite substantial knocks by Karla Woolvardt (35 not out) and Katie Mack (32).

Their tally was overhauled in seven overs by the Hurricanes, who finished on 3-76 with captain Elyse Villani, unbeaten on 39 off 24 balls, the player of the match.

She received strong early support from fellow opener Lizelle Lee (21).

The key over in the run chase was the fifth, in which Villani plundered three boundaries from the bowling of Anesu Mushangwe (0-25).

The Hurricanes took 15 from the over, leading to the win that takes them off the bottom of the WBBL ladder while handing the Strikers their second loss of the season.
