The Briefing:

  • Hurricane Trudy churned as a Category 1 storm approximately 270 km south-southeast of Manzanillo early Saturday, with 150 km/h sustained winds, while a hurricane warning remained active from Manzanillo, Colima to Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco.
  • Forecasters expect Trudy to approach Mexico's southwestern and west-central Pacific coast Saturday before grazing the shoreline overnight into Sunday — even offshore, the storm is capable of triggering life-threatening floods and mudslides across Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco.
  • Rainfall totals of 100 to 200 mm are forecast across the affected states this weekend, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 300 mm — enough to overwhelm the saturated soils already weakened by three prior storms this season.
