A Caribbean system is expected to become the next tropical depression or storm sometime this week.
A series of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the southwestern Caribbean Sea has a 20% chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm in the next two days and a 40% chance in the next five days, according to the NHC’s 8 a.m. Tuesday update.
The system, which was first identified Sunday evening and is associated with a surface trough of low pressure, is forecast to slowly develop toward the middle of the week, the NHC said. It is also expected to drift near the coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras and move northwest.
