Earlier this month, Hunter Biden, the first son of President Biden, was found guilty on all charges in a historic criminal case related to his purchase of a handgun in 2018.
Hunter Biden was convicted of making a false statement in the gun purchase, providing false information required by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possessing a gun as an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.
While the impact of Hunter Biden's guilty verdict on his father's presidential campaign remains uncertain, it has raised new questions for President Biden's re-election bid.
A recent Monmouth University poll revealed that nearly half of respondents believed the charges against Hunter Biden were politically motivated. The survey, conducted before the trial's conclusion, indicated that both candidates are garnering similar levels of support, with increased enthusiasm among voters from both parties.
According to the poll, just over 40% of registered voters expressed intent to vote for the Democratic incumbent, while a similar percentage favored his Republican predecessor in the White House.
President Biden, in response to his son's guilty verdict, emphasized his role as a father, expressing love and pride for Hunter. He stated that he and First Lady Jill Biden are proud of the man Hunter has become.
Biden also made it clear that he would not consider pardoning or commuting his son's sentence.
