Hunt for man behind three-year campaign of far-right racist graffiti in Eltham

A man is thought to have scrawled racist, far-right graffiti in Eltham for around three years.

Releasing an image of a man they want to speak to on Wednesday, Met Police detectives said they believed the same person was responsible for the racist messages in south London.

Officers said there had been a “recent spike” in the racist graffiti, with four such incidents carried out along Eltham’s Rochester Way in the early hours of the morning in December alone.

In the three year period police are aware of locations in the Eltham Page, Eltham Park and Progress and Eltham Town and Avery Hill areas have also been targeted.

Both public and private properties have been hit by the racist messages.

Met Inspector Kristina Money, in charge of Eltham’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams, said: “This individual has been active for a significant period of time and his actions have caused significant distress in the local community.

“Throughout the last three years we have been building a picture of his offending and collating as much evidence as possible.

“The local community has been really supportive as we’ve carried out this work, along with our colleagues at the council, to identify this person but we need the public’s help.

“This man makes efforts to conceal his identity but I am hoping the image may resonate with someone who can assist in helping us establish who he is. If you can help, please get in contact with us.”

The man responsible is described as around 5ft 8 inches tall, of medium build and is said to walk with a distinctive gait.

Police ask anyone with information to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD1298/5Feb.
