Officers cordoned off the area for several hours on Tuesday evening. A resident told the Manchester Evening News his son had heard 'shouting' at around 5pm. The man, who returned home from work to see a man had been injured, said: "He had his hand pressed on his neck and it looked like it was bleeding.

"I heard the police tell him to keep his hand pressed on it until they got something to put on the wound. There was a lady on the phone too, she looked really shaken up."
