Hunt for Cumbernauld thief caught 'crawling like Spiderman' before stealing £9k worth of equipment

Police have re-appealed for information after a man was caught crawling along the floor of a golf shop before stealing nearly £10,000 worth of equipment.

A masked thief was picked up on CCTV 'crawling around like spiderman' after breaking into NexGen indoor golf centre in Westfield Industrial Estate on Deerdykes View, Cumbernauld on January 27.

A quantity of golf equipment worth over £9,600 was stolen from the family-run business just 10 minutes after employees locked up for the night.

The suspect allegedly smashed a window of the shop before fleeing with the haul in under three minutes.

Owner Chris Tierney, 37, said he was absolutely gutted following the shocking break-in.

He told the Daily Record: "The shop was locked up at 9.30pm on Friday and the person broke in at 9.40pm.

"He must have been watching the shop and waiting for the staff to leave. In and out in three minutes so he knew what he was doing.

"He smashed the front door and then crawled all around the shop to try and avoid the security camera.

"He was crawling around like spiderman.

"It is a family business and my wee girl was with me when we found the shop had been broken into on Saturday morning. We offer junior lessons and I had to cancel all the classes. I'm pretty gutted."
