Police are looking to grill a brazen thief after he nabbed sausages, cakes, chocolate and cash from a snack van during a late night raid in East Kilbride.
The greedy crook stole £50 from the money box after forcing his was into Lesleyanne’s Snack Van on Thursday, February 3.
Fast food owner Lesleyanne told Lanarkshire Live that the suspect managed to break into the truck at around 8pm before making off with the cash and snacks.
Police are now probing the incident and business owner Lesleyanne has asked members of the public for their help.
Lesleyanne told Lanarkshire Live this week: “The police have been fantastic
“They phoned me this morning and have a couple of names they are looking into, so I’m waiting on them getting back to me.”
CCTV footage of the break-in circulated social media at the time, with locals determined to ID the “scumbag”.
Lesleyanne said: “It obviously leaves you angry that someone has broken in, but more so - what was he expecting to get?
“There are signs on the van stating that no cash is kept in the van and that we have CCTV.
“He took the grill off and came in the window, grabbed the money box which only had about £50 float in it, a couple of cakes, some chocolate bars, chewing gum, the tips cup - which only had a couple of pounds in it - and two Lorne sausage.
“He went to an awful lot of effort for not much. Not really worth going through the insurance.”
The sausage thief is facing even wurst luck - he was caught redhanded by the snack van’s cameras and now cops have confirmed they are following a “positive line of enquiry”.
The bungling burglar’s face was clearly caught on CCTV, with video footage and stills now circulating online.
A spokesman from Police Scotland said: “Enquiries are still ongoing to identify the male responsible.
“There is a positive line of enquiry.”
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact police on 101.
