Hundreds of patients are still in North East hospitals with Covid-19, despite infection rates falling across the region.
According to the latest seven-day figures from the Government's Covid data map, coronavirus cases have fallen in all areas of the region. Infections are also continuing to fall across most of the UK.
Across the country, 2.9 million people in private households are estimated to have had Covid in the week to April 23, down from 3.8 million the previous week.

However, the Government's dashboard, which shows figures up to April 29, reveals that hundreds of people remain in North East hospitals with Covid.
A total of 457 Covid patients were in hospital in our region, though very few were in mechanical ventilation beds - 12 in all.
South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Sunderland Royal and South Tyneside District Hospitals, had 123 Covid patients, while County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust had 113.
Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, was the only trust with no patients in mechanical ventilation beds. A full breakdown of all North East trusts is given below.
