Every year, hundreds of thousands of children fall victim to kidnapping incidents. In the United States, a child is reported missing or abducted every 40 seconds, as per the Child Crime Prevention & Safety Center. The FBI estimates that out of the 840,000 people who go missing annually, 85% to 90% are children.
Despite the alarming statistics, there are stories of hope and resilience. Melissa Highsmith, who was separated from her family for over 50 years, was reunited with her loved ones in November 2022. Similarly, Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted at the age of 14, managed to escape and reunite with her family after being held captive for months.
