Hundreds of hospital patients harmed, accidentally published report reveals

  • An accidentally published interim review revealed that 209 patients suffered harm under suspended consultant orthopaedic surgeon Kuldeep Stohr at Cambridge University Hospitals.
  • Out of 924 patient cases reviewed so far, 47 were classed as severe harm and one was fatal, involving a nine-year-old boy who died in 2015.
  • Children receiving elective care accounted for 139 of the 209 cases where patients experienced harm.
  • Chief executive Nicola Ayton offered a deep apology to affected patients and families, confirming she is writing to each of them directly following the leak.
  • Concerns about the surgeon's technique were first raised in 2015, with a separate review revealing that previous opportunities to act were missed.
