Flash floods and landslides that struck the Himalayan border region of Nepal and China's autonomous region of Tibet on Wednesday have killed at least 359 people and nearly 1,500 people, including several hundred tourists, were reported missing. The casualty toll is expected to increase.
Nearly 1,500 people were reported missing and at least 359 were confirmed dead after flash floods and landslides at the Nepal-Tibet border.
They included hikers and climbers from around the world, many of whom flock to the Himalayan nation to test themselves on the world's highest peaks, as well as Hindu devotees on pilgrimages.
These figures are likely to change, which is not uncommon after a major disaster.
Nepal's disaster agency said 823 people were unaccounted for on Thursday, a figure that included at least 517 foreigners. It did not give a breakdown of the number of Nepalis or the nationalities of the foreigners.
Nepal's tourism board on Thursday put the number of missing tourists and travellers -- Nepali and foreign -- at 667 in total. Its further breakdown of the nationalities is included below.

Across the border with Tibet, China said 558 people -- including 260 foreigners -- were missing.
Double-counting of dual nationals, matching bodies with people listed as missing and the chaos of a calamity can all contribute to fluctuations in the figures.
Here is the latest on the missing:
Nepal
The new Nepal Tourism Board figures Thursday said that 127 Nepali visitors were among the 667 it listed as missing.
It was not immediately clear how many Nepali residents of the area were unaccounted for.
China
China's foreign ministry said nearly 100 Chinese nationals were among the missing in Nepal. The Nepal Tourism Board said 24 Chinese were unaccounted for.
That was in addition to the 558, including 260 foreigners, missing on its side of the border.
India
Nepal's new tourism board figures Thursday showed 178 people from India were missing. Eleven others had been rescued.
They were in the country with three travel agencies: Samrat Tours & Travels, Leaf Holiday and Himalayan Glacier.
United States
Sixty-five US citizens were missing, the Nepal Tourism Board said Thursday, a dramatic leap from a day earlier, when the figure had been fewer than 15. Two others had been rescued.
Ukraine
Ukraine's foreign ministry said Nepal's Tourist Police had informed them that they believed 53 Ukrainian nationals were missing.
They included a group of 46 Ukrainian tourists with whom the authorities in Nepal had lost contact, the ministry added.
Australia
Thirty-four Australians are missing following the floods, said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
"Our thoughts are with all those who will be concerned about their loved ones today," he said.
The missing include 15 who were part of a group of pilgrims that include two teenagers, their tour company told AFP on Thursday.
Malaysia
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Thursday that more than 50 Malaysians in Nepal are unreachable.
The Nepal Tourism Board put the number at 51.
United Kingdom
Thirty-three people from the United Kingdom were missing, the Nepal Tourism Board figures showed Thursday.
Canada
Twenty-five Canadians were among the missing, the tourism board figures showed Thursday.
South Korea
South Korea's foreign ministry said Wednesday that nine hydropower workers were out of contact in the Rasuwa district following the floods.
Japan
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said she was "concerned" by media reports that five Japanese nationals were missing.
"I am fervently praying that each and every irreplaceable life will be protected," she said in a post on X.
Singapore
Nine Singaporeans were unaccounted for, the Nepal Tourism Board said.
South Africa
Six South Africans travelling with the same Alpine Eco Trek agency as the British citizens were missing, according to the tourism board's list from Wednesday.
France
Four French citizens are among the missing, the Nepal Tourism Board said Thursday
Germany
Eight German citizens are missing, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.
Latvia
Six Latvian tourists were also among the missing, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.
Russia
Eight Russians are unaccounted for, while two had been rescued, the Nepal Tourism Board said.
Spain
Spain's foreign ministry reported four Spaniards missing. The Nepal Tourism Board put the figure at three.
New Zealand
The foreign affairs ministry said five New Zealanders were unaccounted for, a figure matched by the Nepal Tourism Board.

The missing figure released Thursday by China from its side of the border included 260 foreigners, but no breakdown on nationalities was provided.
Eight people whose nationalities had yet to be confirmed had been rescued, the Nepal Tourism Board said Thursday.
They included 77 with Trekkers Society, 26 with Kailash Journey and eight with Richa Tours & Travels.
