Members of the federation of progressive organisations gathered at the Dufferin Clock Tower in front of Devaraja Market in Mysuru on Tuesday to voice concern over the unrelenting efforts to spread communal disharmony in the State.
The participants held aloft placards and shouted slogans against the conspiracy hatched by certain organisations to drive a wedge between Hindu and Muslim communities in the State to disturb communal harmony.
A statement issued by the organisers regretted that the political conspiracy targeted against the Muslims, which began with hijab, was continuing unabated with the call for eviction of Muslim traders from jatres followed by a campaign against consumption of halal meat.
Further, he said efforts were also underway to distort 250 years of the region’s history and to change the names of circles named after the 18 th century warrior king Tipu Sultan in different villages.
Pointing out that all the people in the country were Indians, the statement said humanity was the supreme religion of people belonging to different faiths.
The federation also cautioned the people against the conspiracy to ruin the State’s tradition of communal harmony by some parties, organisations and religious associations, besides self-styled thinkers.
The human chain by the federation was supported by Dalit Sangharsha Samithi, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Left organisations, labour organisations, Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum, Dalit Vidyarthi Okkoota of University of Mysore, Jai Bheem Koregaon Vijayothsava Samithi, and Federation of Mysuru Muslim Organisations.
