Human-animal Conflict: Karnataka forest minister asks CM Siddaramaiah to supply power during day time

BENGALURU: Preventing possible human-animal conflict incidents along the periphery of the forest areas in Karnataka, Forest Minister Eshwar B Khandre has appealed to the state government to provide three-phase power to farmers during the daytime.

Seeking a direction to the Energy Department for the supply of 3-phase power during the daytime, the minister has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

In his letter to the CM, Khandre said, “There have been several human casualties in these areas due to attack by elephants, tigers and leopards. As the government is providing the 3-phase power, required to run the irrigation pump sets (IP Sets), during night hours, farmers who visit fields in the night to irrigate crops are becoming targets of these attacks. Further, several wildlife experts have suggested the supply of 3-phase power during the day hours.”
