Huge queues at Merseyside beach as thousands flock to the seaside

Cars are stuck in miles of tailbacks are families descend on the Merseyside coastline to enjoy the heatwave.

People travelling to Ainsdale beach have been warned over traffic and have been urged to plan ahead as the beach car park operates a one-in-one-out operation after filling up earlier today. The car park, which holds an estimated 2,000 cars when there's no tide, filled up in a matter of hours today as people were quick to head to the beach to enjoy the weather.

Due to the high tide, the beach parking is only able to accommodate 500 cars, meaning cars lined both Shore Road and the Coastal Road as eager daytrippers wait patiently to get their chance in the sun. Sefton Council invited people to park in other parts of the borough and travel to the beach by foot or by public transport.

In other photos taken by the ECHO, people can be seen enjoying the heatwave as temperatures are expected to hit 30C across Merseyside. Sefton Council recently introduced new legislation meaning disposable barbeques are banned from the coastline, as well as lighting fires in an attempt to make the coastline a safer space for families.

Sefton Council wrote on its website: "The hot weather also brings greater fire risk, so we would encourage to people to use the outlets rather than lighting fires or bringing their own barbeques, which are strictly not allowed anywhere long the Sefton Coast."
