Huge plumes of smoke were seen coming from a field as firefighters scrambled to the scene of a blaze.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call at 6.12pm on Thursday, May 3, following reports of a blaze just off Chester Lane in St Helens. Two fire engines arrived at the scene seven minutes later and found a large pile of rubbish on fire on waste ground.
Firefighters used two hoses to extinguish the fames. Dramatic footage from the scene shows firefighters arriving to huge black smoke plumes coming from the field.

It took firefighters one hour to extinguish the blaze and crews left the scene at 7.10pm.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident on Chester Lane, St Helens on the evening of Wednesday 3rd May. Crews were alerted at 18.12 and two fire engines were on scene at 18.19.
"On arrival crews were met with a large quantity of rubbish alight on waste ground, firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire shortly after. Crews left the scene at 19.10."
