Huge part of iconic cliff falls into the sea with lighthouse teetering on edge

Hikers and walkers are being warned to watch out after another cliff collapse at an iconic UK tourist spot.

New images highlight what happened near the Belle Tout Lighthouse at Beachy Head in Sussex, which is now a guest house positioned on the cliff edge, The Mirror reports.

Chunks of rock can be seen broken and strewn on the beachfront below after falling from the 530ft cliff face.

The photographer explained that it happened only this week - and with the June Bank Holiday weekend just days away, tourists have been asked to proceed with extreme caution.

Matt Pavitt of HM Coastguard said: "We’re reminding everyone to stay safe. Warning signs are there for a reason. Keep away from the cliff edge and the base of cliffs when on the beach.

"Don’t risk going to the edge to take a selfie – no photograph is worth risking your life for."

Similar incidents which took place at nearby Birling Gap has meant the popular visitor centre, operated by the National Trust, has had to relocate its café from the rear to the front of the building.

A large crack could be seen in the cliffs close to Seaford in March this year, putting tourists on edge.

And at neighbouring Seven Sisters another part fell into the sea below.

However even though there are signs warning people to keep away, Bank Holiday weekends often see countless tourists at the busy walking locations.
