Boris Johnson is set to host one last lavish party this weekend to celebrate his wedding anniversary, before being booted from Number 10.
As the Mirror revealed last week, the ousted PM and wife Carrie will host family and friends at 18th-century Daylesford House - owned by JCB boss Lord Bamford.
Lord Bamford and his family have handed the Conservative Party at least £14million in cash and gifts since 2001 - and the peer has frequently lent his private aircraft to Mr Johnson to travel for party events.
A huge white marquee, topped with bunting, has been erected in the landscaped grounds of the Grade I-listed mansion in Gloucestershire, while staff made preparations.
Guests at tomorrow's celebration will be able to relax on hay bales and benches placed outside the tent and eat and drink at casks and small tables as they enjoy views across vast meadows and orchards.
The couple married in a low-key private ceremony at Westminster Cathedral last year, organised in secret, in front of a small group of family and friends.
This was followed by a reception in the gardens of 10 Downing Street with a limited number of guests due to coronavirus restrictions.
The Johnsons originally wanted to host the event at Chequers, the Prime Minister’s taxpayer-funded country retreat - but were forced to back down on the plan after a fierce backlash.
When asked about the wedding celebrations, No 10 declined to comment on the "private matter".
The close links between Mr Johnson and the billionaire Bamford family saw the PM visit the JCB factory in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire during the 2019 election campaign.
The PM famously used the trip to crash a digger, with “Get Brexit done” emblazoned on it, through a fake wall marked “gridlock” as he drummed up support for his EU exit plan.
In January 2019, while he was brooding on the backbenches plotting his path to No10, Mr Johnson made his “comeback” speech at JCB headquarters.
The firm paid him £10,000 just three days before he delivered his address, which was peppered with references to the company and its diggers.
During the pandemic, the Johnsons dined in style thanks to a secret £12,500 gourmet food supply from Daylesford organic, which is owned by Lady Bamford.
