A lorry driver had a lucky escape after his articulated lorry overturned and blocked a major Scots road.
The driver of the artic was reportedly able to climb out of the vehicle unharmed after it flipped over on the A701 south of St Ann's Bridge, close to both Dumfries and Lockerbie in the Borders. However, the devastating crash saw the vehicle overturn across the width of the single carriageway road, blocking it for more than 12 hours.
Images shared with the Record show the yellow Scania and its blue trailer splayed across the carriageway, leaving a trail of dirt in their wake. The vehicle appeared to be carrying equipment which had been mangled and thrown off the flatbed following the crash.
An eyewitness said: "The accident happened no more than a minute before I got there. My partner and I ran to the scene to check on the driver, as I'm a first aid responder.
"The driver was already out of his cab and walking in a daze. He had no injuries but he was clearly in shock."
Motorists were diverted away from the scene after the crash, which took place at around 2.20pm on Sunday October 23. The A701 remained closed until 4.45am on Monday while the vehicle was removed and investigative works took place.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 2.20pm on Sunday, 23 October, to a report of one vehicle crash involving a lorry on the A701 near St Anns Bridge, Lockerbie.
“There were no reported injuries and the road was closed for recovery with a local diversion in place. The road has since reopened.”
