Huge fire breaks out in Edinburgh as thick smoke 'seen from Fife'

Emergency services have raced to the scene of a huge fire in Edinburgh. Crews were called to a residential/business area on Lower Granton Road at around 11.35am following reports from concerned locals who captured images of the smoke pouring into the sky from miles away.

Images show thick plumes of black smoke billowing out above the capital's coastline. According to Edinburgh Live, locals have reported seeing the smoke from their homes in Fife across the Firth of Forth.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the fire is still active. Two fire appliances are currently tackling the blaze.

It is not currently known if there have been any injuries.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We can confirm that we are in attendance at an ongoing fire at Lower Granton Road.

“We received a call at 11.35am and two appliances are in attendance."
