Huge fire at Leeds City College as crews race to scene to tackle devastating blaze

Firefighters have spent all night tackling a large blaze at a college campus in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said in a statement that they were called out after the fire alarm sounded at the building on Hunslet Road at 12.02am. The fire is at the Printworks campus of Leeds City College.

Fire crews tackled the blaze throughout the night. On arrival three pumps were in attendance, but this was increased to eight pumps, including an aerial unit. You can keep up to date with the latest updates on the fire in our dedicated live blog.

Footage from the scene just after 1am shows several fire engines around the building as firefighters rush to hoses. A fire investigation officer has been at the scene, which has reduced to two pumps as of 5.15am - from Cookridge and Dewsbury fire stations.

In a statement, the fire service said three hose reels were required, as well as four breathing apparatuses, aerial and positive pressure ventilation. People are advised to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said appliances attended from across Leeds: "Appliances from Hunslet x 2, Killingbeck x 2, Leeds pump and aerial, Rothwell, Morley, Ossett, Moortown, Stanningley, Featherstone CU lite, Ilkley welfare unit, Mirfield Hose layer and support, drone team along with a fire investigation officer."
