Huge emergency service presence as man scales roof of shopping centre in Lancashire

A huge emergency response has been prompted at a shopping centre in Lancashire tonight as a man has staged a protest on the roof.

Police were called to the scene this afternoon (Tuesday) and found a man had scaled the roof of the building. Pictures from the scene show he is holding a sign which reads: "Free Mally Jnr."

The Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale has been closed as police and other emergency services surround the glass building.

It's understood negotiators are speaking to the man, who can be seen standing on one of the metal bars inside the shopping centre, reports the ECHO.

Members of the public have been asked to stay away from the area.

Lancashire Police confirmed they were called just before 1.30pm following reports of a concern for safety. Police attended and found a man protesting on the roof of a building.

A spokesperson for the force added: "A cordon was put in place and will remain in place while the incident is dealt with. We ask that the public stay away from the area."

There are a number of signs hung inside the shopping centre which read “Free Malloy JNR” and “Justice4Junior”

Negotiators are still talking to the man, who is standing on one of the metal bars inside the shopping centre.

Concourse Shopping Centre have been approached by the ECHO for comment.
