Motorists have been warned of 'severe delays' on the the M6 and M61 in Lancashire. Travel time is estimated to be just over 30 minutes on the northbound carriageway towards junction 31 for Preston.
On the M6 traffic stretches back to the Charnock Richard Services while on the M61 there is congestion from junction eight to Chorley.

As reported on LancsLive, with Monday (May 29) an extra day off for many and half-term next week, people are already hitting the roads in their droves as they travel north towards the coast, the Lake District and beyond. It comes as the Met Office forecasts a glorious week ahead with no rain and highs of 21C.
Traffic alert service Inrix reports: "Long delays due to holiday traffic on M6 Northbound from M6 (Charnock Richard Services) to J31 A59 Preston New Road (Samlesbury). Queueing traffic due to holiday traffic on M61 Northbound from J8 A674 Millennium Way (Chorley) to M6 J30."
One lane is also closed on the M6 southbound before junction 27 due to an earlier car fire. Emergency repairs are underway and lane one of three is shut.
