Huge cannabis farm uncovered in historic Greater Manchester mill

A huge cannabis farm has been uncovered by police inside a historic Greater Manchester mill. Officers descended on Pioneer Mill, in Radcliffe, before raiding one of the units inside the building.

Images shared by Greater Manchester Police show cannabis plants being grown in rows, with lighting and specialist equipment attached to the ceiling. The force says the electricity had been bypassed at the cannabis farm before officers raided it.

The plants were seized by officers before being destroyed. In a post on social media this morning (January 25), a spokesperson for GMP Bury South said: "Officers from the Radcliffe Neighbourhood Team continue to prevent crime and build public confidence.

"This week they dismantled a cannabis farm in a unit at Pioneer Mill, Milltown Street, Radcliffe where the electricity supply had been bypassed. The unit was made safe and the cannabis destroyed."

Pioneer Mill was built in the early 20th century and is believed to have been the last mill in Radcliffe to weave cotton. The building is now used by a number of businesses, and was hit by a large fire in May last year.
