A stunning historic church building with the potential to be a "heavenly" home, is set to go up for auction in November with a guide price that's less than the current price of a single garage unit in Edinburgh. The West Hall Church in Aberchirder in Aberdeenshire dates back to around 1850, the C-listed building has a guide price of just £25,000 and according to the auctioneers has a huge potential to be a "Grand Designs-style" project for someone.
The traditional L-shaped Church building is found on the corner of Cornhill Road and North Street in Foggie and extends to around 148 sqm. It boasts a large reception room with the main church hall and accompanying balcony.
Though many of the church's original features remain, the beautiful property will need a lot of work inside, with the firm behind the sale, Auction House Scotland, stating a full renovation is required.
The company's managing director, Mandi Cooper told Aberdeen Live, said: "With a guide price of £25,000, this former church building in the pleasant village location of Aberchirder offers several divine development opportunities for a potential buyer. After some careful restoration and development, it could make a truly unique heavenly home.”
The church will go under the hammer at 2pm on Thursday, November 3 at the Radisson RED Hotel in Glasgow, however, pre-auction offers are being considered.
The former church, which was used as a picture house between 1940 and 1958, is said to be ideal for a "sympathetic restoration" and could be redesigned for a variety of uses.
Situated between the towns of Banff, Turriff and Huntly, Aberchirder is just an hour's drive from the bustling Aberdeen.
Interested bidders can also view a live stream and bid online with phone and proxy bidding also available. Registration is required before participation.
